Choose the Right Font
Whether your publication looks professional or not is not only dependant on the quality of the design, font choice has a big influence on how we perceive the end result of a publication, leaflet or website.
The word font originates from the French language ("fonte"), which literally means "melted". The meaning stems from the days in which fonts were created by melting metal into the desired shapes and forms.
Colours of Fonts
But how do you go about choosing the correct font shape, size and colour for your publication? It all depends on what audience you would like to reach with your publication. The colour choice and type face of you fond will be the determining factors. Different colours are associated with different personal moods. Black usually makes a very stern and powerful statement, white on the other hand gives people a feeling of safety and purity. But fonts can be printed in all the colours of the rainbow, from red, resembling vibrance, over yellow, resembling happiness to blue resembling loyalty and honesty.
But colour extends to setting important titles and key word in bold or underlying key text to draw the reader's attention.
Type Face of Fonts
But colour by itself won't draw everyone's attention to your publication. Typeface is as important as colour. The most popular font used in the business world at the moment is "Arial", portraying a very professional and clean look. But if you want to attract a more younger and vibrant audience, "Architectural" is the font for you. But no matter what typeface you choose, always ensure that the text is clearly readable as the reader's attention will not be maintained if the text is to hard and heavy to read.
Size of Fonts
To ensure that your publication is easy to the eye and readable comfortable, you will have to choose the right font size for your work. The size of font is expressed in points, 12 point, 14 point and so on. The general rule is that the main body of the text is usually printed in point 12 to 14. Bigger font can be used to draw attention to the main headings and the various sections of the publication. Notes to the publication are generally printed on the bottom of the page in a smaller size font, usually point 8 to 10.
By mixing the various elements that make up a font, being colour, typeface and size, you can determine whether you would like your publication to be attracted to the young individual, the middle aged worker or the real professionals in the business world. The choice is yours and don't forget, with the current use of computers, experimenting with various fonts is easy and quick, giving you every opportunity to find the ideal font to create the perfect publication.
